Who played bass guitar in Bob Marley and the Wailers?
Answer
Aston “Family Man” Barrett
Answer
Aston “Family Man” Barrett
Aston “Family Man” Barrett played bass guitar in Bob Marley and the Wailers. He became one of the group’s most important musicians and musical directors during its international rise.
Barrett and his brother Carlton Barrett formed the rhythm section known as the Barrett brothers. Carlton played drums, while Aston supplied the deep, melodic bass lines that helped define the Wailers’ reggae sound.
Aston Barrett joined the Wailers in the early 1970s and remained closely associated with Marley’s recordings and touring band. He was also known by the nickname “Family Man,” reflecting both his large family and his leadership role among musicians.
Peter Tosh and Bunny Wailer were founding Wailers and major vocalists, but neither was the band’s principal bass player. Lee “Scratch” Perry was a producer who worked with the group, not its bassist.
