Who played Aunt Vivian in the later seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air?

Daphne Maxwell Reid played Aunt Vivian Banks in the later seasons of The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. She took over the role after Janet Hubert-Whitten’s departure from the series.

Reid appears as the second Vivian beginning in season 4, which premiered in 1993, and remained with the show through its sixth and final season. The character stayed central to the Banks family even though the actress changed, so Vivian continued to be Will’s aunt, Ashley’s mother, and Philip Banks’s wife.

The recasting is a frequent source of quiz confusion because both Hubert and Reid played Aunt Vivian. Janet Hubert portrayed the character during the first three seasons, while Reid handled the later-season episodes. Reid was also an accomplished model and actress, and she became the first African-American woman named homecoming queen at Northwestern University.
