Who photographed Georgia O'Keeffe extensively and became her husband in 1924?

The story behind the answer

Alfred Stieglitz photographed Georgia O'Keeffe extensively and became her husband in 1924. Stieglitz was a major American photographer, gallery owner, and advocate for modern art.

He first encountered O'Keeffe’s drawings through Anita Pollitzer and exhibited them at his New York galleries. From 1918 onward, Stieglitz made hundreds of photographs of O'Keeffe, including portraits and studies of her hands. Their artistic and personal relationship became a prominent part of both biographies.

Stieglitz and O'Keeffe married on December 11, 1924. They maintained separate creative lives for much of their marriage, with O'Keeffe increasingly drawn to New Mexico and Stieglitz remaining in New York and at Lake George. Stieglitz died in 1946, while O'Keeffe continued working for decades afterward.
