Who performs the Oscar-nominated song “Our Town” in Pixar’s Cars?

James Taylor performs the Oscar-nominated song “Our Town” in Pixar’s Cars.

“Our Town” plays over the film’s closing credits and reflects the emotional transformation of Radiator Springs. The song was written by Randy Newman, whose music and score helped establish the film’s nostalgic atmosphere, but the recorded vocal performance is by James Taylor.

The song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song at the 79th Academy Awards. It did not win; the award went to “I Need to Wake Up” from An Inconvenient Truth. “Our Town” also received recognition from other music organizations after Cars was released.

The performer and songwriter are easy to mix up because Randy Newman wrote the song and composed the film’s score. James Taylor is the correct answer when the question asks who performs the vocal track heard in Cars.
