Who is the stingray teacher?

The story behind the answer

The stingray teacher is Mr. Ray.

Mr. Ray is Nemo’s classroom teacher in Finding Nemo. He is a spotted eagle ray who leads Nemo and the other young sea creatures on lessons around the reef, including a field trip to the drop-off where the reef meets the open sea.

The character’s name is a playful reference to his species: “ray” describes the broad-bodied cartilaginous fish to which spotted eagle rays belong. His classroom is mobile, since he swims with the students rather than teaching in a fixed building. He is voiced by Bob Peterson, who also co-wrote the screenplay.

Viewers sometimes confuse Mr. Ray with a doctor or professor because the other choices sound like formal titles. “Mr. Ray” is the character’s established name, not merely a description of the animal. In Finding Dory, he remains associated with Nemo’s school and is later mentioned in connection with migration.
