Frodo Baggins is the Ring-bearer who carries the One Ring toward Mordor in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Frodo inherits the Ring from his uncle Bilbo after Bilbo’s birthday party and later leaves the Shire with it. At the Council of Elrond, he accepts the task of taking the Ring to Mordor, where it can be destroyed in the fires of Mount Doom. The journey forms the central narrative of the novel.
Samwise Gamgee accompanies Frodo and becomes essential to the quest, but he is not the primary Ring-bearer for most of the story. Frodo’s role also differs from Bilbo’s: Bilbo found the Ring during The Hobbit, whereas Frodo must deliver it to its place of destruction.
