Who is the Pokémon professor investigating the environment in Pokémon Pokopia?

Professor Tangrowth investigates the environment in Pokémon Pokopia.

Professor Tangrowth is a Tangrowth who has taken responsibility for studying the abandoned world and uncovering why humans and Pokémon disappeared. The character meets Ditto early in the story and gives the player a purpose beyond simply building a home.

The title “Professor” is a playful variation on the human Pokémon professors found throughout the main series. In Pokopia, the role belongs to a Pokémon, matching the game’s unusual setting and its focus on Pokémon communities rather than human trainers.

Professor Tangrowth should not be confused with Professor Oak, the famous researcher from the original Kanto games. Oak is not the environmental investigator in Pokopia; Professor Tangrowth is the character connected to the game’s central mystery and restoration work.
