Steffi Graf is the only player to win a Golden Slam, taking all four majors plus Olympic gold in one calendar year. She achieved this extraordinary feat in 1988, winning the Australian Open, French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, and women's singles gold at the Seoul Olympics.
Graf's Olympic final was against Argentina's Gabriela Sabatini, whom she defeated in straight sets. Her US Open victory completed the four-major Grand Slam, while the Olympic triumph a few weeks later added the “golden” part of the achievement.
The feat is often confused with a regular Grand Slam, which means winning the four major tournaments in the same calendar year. A career Grand Slam, meanwhile, means winning each major at least once, without requiring all four in one year. Graf won 22 Grand Slam singles titles and remained world No. 1 for a record 377 weeks.
