Yook Sungjae is the only BTOB member who appeared in a virtual marriage program.
He starred opposite Red Velvet’s Joy in MBC’s We Got Married 4. Their virtual marriage began in 2015 and featured dates, family and group interactions, a wedding ceremony, and everyday newlywed-style activities. The pairing became popularly known as “SungJoy.”
We Got Married was a South Korean reality-variety program in which celebrities were paired as pretend spouses. Although the couples participated in romantic and domestic situations, the marriages were created for the show and were not legal marriages. Sungjae and Joy’s virtual marriage ended in 2016.
A common mix-up is confusing Sungjae’s variety-show marriage with other BTOB members’ appearances on television programs. Other members appeared as guests or entertainers, but Sungjae was the BTOB member who joined the program as one half of a featured virtual couple.
