Who is the main villain of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom?

The story behind the answer

Mola Ram is the main villain of Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.

Mola Ram is portrayed as the high priest of the Thuggee cult operating from Pankot Palace. In the film, the cult has enslaved children and stolen sacred Sankara stones from a nearby village. Indiana Jones becomes involved after the village asks for help recovering the stones and rescuing the children.

Actor Amrish Puri played Mola Ram. The character is shown performing ritual sacrifices and using the cult’s power to control followers. His confrontation with Indiana takes place near the film’s climax, after Indiana resists the effects of the fictional black sleep of Kali.

The movie’s version of the Thuggee cult draws loosely on historical accounts and colonial-era legends, but Mola Ram and the film’s supernatural events are fictional. The character is often remembered for the chant associated with the cult and for the distinctive skull headdress used in the production.
