Bayek of Siwa is the main playable protagonist of Assassin’s Creed Origins.

Bayek is a Medjay, an ancient Egyptian protector and law enforcer from the Siwa Oasis. The game follows his search for answers after a personal tragedy and his growing opposition to a hidden group manipulating political power in Ptolemaic Egypt.

Origins is set in the first century BCE, during the reign of Cleopatra VII and the Roman intervention in Egypt. Bayek’s journey, alongside his wife Aya, helps establish the early ideals and structures that later become associated with the Hidden Ones, the historical precursor to the Assassin Brotherhood.

The game’s title refers to this foundation story. Bayek is sometimes described simply as an Assassin, but the organization he helps create is initially called the Hidden Ones. Basim belongs to Assassin’s Creed Mirage, while Arno Dorian is the protagonist of Unity.
