Who is the main lyricist of Radiohead's music?

The story behind the answer

Who is the main lyricist of Radiohead’s music? Thom Yorke is Radiohead’s main lyricist. He is also the band’s lead vocalist and one of its principal songwriters, giving its music much of its distinctive emotional and verbal character.

Yorke’s lyrics often explore anxiety, alienation, politics, technology, environmental concerns, and modern life. His writing style changed notably around Kid A, released in 2000: instead of relying only on conventional storytelling, he experimented with cutting up phrases and assembling words for their sound, imagery, and emotional associations.

Radiohead’s songwriting credits are frequently shared by the full band, especially on officially released recordings. That does not mean every member contributes equally to the lyrics. Jonny Greenwood is especially important to the band’s arrangements, guitar work, and harmonic experimentation, while Yorke is generally identified as the lyric voice. Yorke has also written lyrics for solo projects and collaborations, including work outside Radiohead.
