Who is the lion character in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia?

The story behind the answer

Aslan is the lion character in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.

Aslan is the creator and ruler of Narnia, and he appears throughout the series as a guide, judge, protector, and source of hope. His name is derived from the Turkish word for “lion.” In the stories, he is not merely an ordinary talking animal; he occupies a unique spiritual and cosmic position in Narnia.

His most prominent role is in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where he confronts the White Witch and gives his life to save Edmund. He returns to life through the Deep Magic, a central event in the novel. Lewis acknowledged Christian meaning in Aslan, while also presenting him as a literary character within the fantasy world.

Aslan is sometimes confused with Prince Caspian, a human ruler, or Mr. Tumnus, a faun. Neither is the lion who presides over Narnia’s history.
