Aslan is the lion and ruler of Narnia in C.S. Lewis’s The Chronicles of Narnia.
Aslan appears throughout the series as Narnia’s creator, protector, and highest authority. He is introduced in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, where his return helps break the White Witch’s rule and restore spring to the land.
The name “Aslan” comes from the Turkish word for “lion.” Lewis gave the character a role that combines elements of a talking animal, a legendary king, and a figure with strong Christian symbolism. Aslan’s meaning has often been discussed by readers and scholars, though the stories also present him as a distinct fictional character within Narnia.
Aslan is not the same character as Prince Caspian, King Rilian, or Puddleglum. Those figures belong to different parts of Narnian history. Aslan’s repeated appearances across the seven books make him the central recurring figure in the series.
