Who is the Italian Formula racer competing against Lightning McQueen in Pixar’s Cars 2?

Francesco Bernoulli is the Italian Formula racer competing against Lightning McQueen in Cars 2.

Bernoulli is one of the headline competitors in the World Grand Prix. He is fast, flamboyant, and highly confident, presenting himself as McQueen’s major sporting rival during the international race series. His design draws on open-wheel racing cars rather than the stock-car style associated with McQueen’s Piston Cup career.

John Turturro voices Francesco in the English version. The character’s Italian identity is part of Cars 2’s worldwide setting, which moves the story through Tokyo, Italy’s fictional Porto Corsa, and London. His rivalry with McQueen supplies the conventional racing storyline while Mater becomes involved in the film’s spy plot.

Francesco is sometimes confused with Luigi, the Italian Fiat 500 who lives in Radiator Springs. Luigi is a tire-shop owner and McQueen’s friend, whereas Francesco is a professional racer and direct competitor in the World Grand Prix.
