The GOT7 member who was formerly part of a national fencing team is Jackson Wang, known in the group simply as Jackson.
Before becoming a K-pop performer, Jackson competed as a sabre fencer for Hong Kong. He represented Hong Kong’s national fencing team and achieved notable results in junior competition, including victories at the 2011 Asian Junior and Cadet Fencing Championships. His athletic background also helped him earn recognition as a promising young fencer.
Jackson later chose entertainment over a continuing fencing career. He moved to South Korea, trained under JYP Entertainment, and debuted with GOT7 in January 2014. The group became known for its energetic performances, rap-focused tracks, and multinational lineup.
A common mix-up is Jackson’s connection to fencing through his family: his father, Wang Ruiji, was also a fencer and coach associated with Hong Kong’s national team. However, Jackson himself competed on the team, making “Jackson” the intended answer. He later built a successful solo career and founded Team Wang.
