BTS was the first K-pop group to receive its own Twitter emoji. Twitter introduced the custom hashtag emoji in May 2016 during the group's Asia tour campaign.
The emoji appeared automatically when users typed hashtags such as #BTS or the group's Korean name, #방탄소년단. Its design referenced the group's identity and was available for a limited period, from May 13 through June 22, 2016. At the time, Twitter custom emojis were reserved for selected major entertainment and sports campaigns.
The claim is sometimes confused with later BTS emoji campaigns. In 2020, Twitter introduced individual face emojis for BTS members as part of the group's seventh-anniversary celebrations. That was a separate milestone. The original 2016 campaign concerned the group as a whole and made BTS the first K-pop act to receive a Twitter hashtag emoji.
