Who is the creator of The Sims series?

The creator of The Sims series is Will Wright. He designed the original life-simulation game while working at Maxis, the studio he co-founded with Jeff Braun, and The Sims was published by Electronic Arts in 2000.

Wright’s concept grew partly from his earlier game SimCity, which let players manage a city rather than control individual characters. He imagined a game focused on homes, personalities, relationships, and everyday decisions. The result helped establish life simulation as a major video-game genre, even though some early executives reportedly doubted whether players would want to play a game without a conventional win condition.

A common mix-up is confusing the creator with the publisher or development company. Maxis developed The Sims, and Electronic Arts published it, but Will Wright is the canonical individual credited as the series’ creator. The game later expanded into multiple numbered sequels, expansion packs, console editions, and online spin-offs. Wright also created SimCity and Spore, but those franchises are separate from The Sims.
