The maximum enchantment level for an item in Minecraft is 30.
This refers to the highest tier offered by a fully powered enchanting table. Reaching level 30 requires 15 properly positioned bookshelves around the table, with an unobstructed gap so their power can be detected. The player must also have at least 30 experience levels and enough lapis lazuli to enchant an item.
A common mix-up is confusing the table’s level-30 option with the level of the enchantment itself. Choosing the level-30 option does not guarantee the strongest possible version of an enchantment, nor does it ensure multiple enchantments. Randomness, the item’s material, and the enchantment rules all affect the result. For example, a level-30 attempt can still produce a lower-ranked enchantment or only one enchantment.
Players can also create unusually high enchantment levels through commands, mods, or other nonstandard methods, but those do not change the normal survival-game maximum offered by an enchanting table. The alternatives 50, 75, and 100 therefore do not represent Minecraft’s standard maximum enchanting-table level.
