Who is the author of 'Wuthering Heights'?
Answer
Emily Brontë
Answer
Emily Brontë
The author of Wuthering Heights is Emily Brontë. The novel was first published in 1847 under Brontë’s pen name, Ellis Bell, which helped protect the author’s privacy in a literary world skeptical of women writers.
Set on the Yorkshire moors, the novel follows the destructive relationships among the Earnshaw and Linton families, especially the bond between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. Its combination of passionate love, revenge, social class, violence, and supernatural atmosphere gives it both Romantic and Gothic qualities.
A common mix-up is confusing Emily with her sisters. Charlotte Brontë wrote Jane Eyre, while Anne Brontë wrote Agnes Grey and The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. Wuthering Heights was Emily’s only novel. Charlotte later edited a 1850 edition and identified Emily as its author after Emily’s death in 1848.
