Who is a vocalist for Cheap Trick?

Robin Zander is a vocalist for Cheap Trick. He is the band’s lead singer and rhythm guitarist, known for his powerful tenor voice and energetic stage performances.

Zander joined Cheap Trick in 1974, shortly after the group formed in Rockford, Illinois. The band’s classic lineup paired him with guitarist Rick Nielsen, bassist Tom Petersson, and drummer Bun E. Carlos. Zander’s voice became central to songs such as “Surrender,” “I Want You to Want Me,” and “Dream Police.”

A common mix-up is confusing Zander with Rick Nielsen, who is Cheap Trick’s principal songwriter and guitarist but is not the band’s primary vocalist. Zander has also released solo material, including his 1993 album Robin Zander, and recorded “Surrender to Me” with Heart singer Ann Wilson.

Cheap Trick was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2016. The band’s 1979 live album Cheap Trick at Budokan helped establish Zander as one of classic rock’s distinctive frontmen.
