Lin Dan holds the record for the most men’s singles titles at the All England Open Badminton Championships, with six.
The Chinese star won in 2004, 2006, 2007, 2009, 2012, and 2016. His six victories surpassed the previous modern-era benchmark and made him one of the defining champions in the tournament’s long history.
The All England is one of badminton’s oldest major tournaments, first held in 1899. It predates the World Championships and the Olympic badminton competition, so its historical title records cover a much longer period.
Lin Dan is sometimes compared with Malaysian rival Lee Chong Wei, who reached several finals but won the All England three times. Indonesia’s Rudy Hartono also won the men’s singles title eight times overall, but those victories belong to the tournament’s earlier record era and are often discussed separately from the modern record lists.
