Who holds the record for the most consecutive sets won at the French Open?

The story behind the answer

Rafael Nadal holds the French Open record for the most consecutive sets won.

Nadal’s dominance on Parisian clay produced a streak of 38 consecutive sets won at Roland-Garros. The run began during his 2016 campaign and continued through the 2017 and 2018 tournaments before Diego Schwartzman took a set from him in the 2018 quarterfinal.

The statistic is distinct from Nadal’s 39-match French Open winning streak, which lasted from 2010 to 2015. It is also different from his broader clay-court record of 50 consecutive sets won, a streak that included tournaments beyond Paris.

Nadal’s French Open record is built on more than one streak: he won 14 men’s singles titles, including five in succession from 2010 through 2014. Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic are among his greatest rivals, but neither owns this particular Roland-Garros sets record.
