Who holds the record for most State of Origin appearances in rugby league?
Answer
Cameron Smith
Answer
Cameron Smith
Cameron Smith holds the record for most State of Origin appearances in rugby league, with 42 matches for Queensland. He played in the series from 2003 to 2017.
Smith was a hooker renowned for his passing, game management and durability. He became a central figure in Queensland’s long period of State of Origin success, including the Maroons’ record run of eight consecutive series victories from 2006 through 2013.
His 42 appearances surpassed the previous record held by Queensland teammate Darren Lockyer. Smith also captained Queensland for much of his career and played a major role in Melbourne Storm’s success in the NRL.
State of Origin records are separate from international records and ordinary club appearances. The series is contested between Queensland and New South Wales, with players selected according to their state eligibility rather than their club.
