David Pearson has the most NASCAR Cup Series wins at Michigan International Speedway.

Pearson won nine Cup races at the two-mile Brooklyn, Michigan, track, a record built largely during his dominant 1970s partnership with the Wood Brothers. His victories came across both of Michigan’s traditional annual races, and he also collected ten poles there—another track record.

Pearson’s first Michigan win came in August 1969, the speedway’s inaugural season. He was especially effective on large, fast ovals, where his smooth driving style and strong mechanical understanding helped him manage long races. In 1976, he scored his eighth Michigan victory; his ninth followed in 1978.

Richard Petty and Cale Yarborough are easy names to confuse with Pearson because both were frequent Michigan winners. Yarborough won the inaugural race and finished with eight victories, while Petty won several times at the track. But Pearson remains the Cup Series record-holder. The venue opened in 1969 and is known for its wide racing surface, which often allows drivers to use multiple lanes.
