Who has chaired the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission since July 2022?

Rosie Rios has chaired the U.S. Semiquincentennial Commission since July 2022. Rios is the former 43rd Treasurer of the United States and is also known as Rosa Gumataotao Rios.

President Joe Biden designated Rios as chair after she had served as U.S. treasurer from 2009 to 2016. Her role places her at the center of the bipartisan commission’s long-term planning for the 2026 commemoration.

The chair is not the same as the head of the later White House Task Force on Celebrating America’s 250th Birthday. Those bodies were created through different legal mechanisms and have separate organizational identities.
