Who founded the LEGO Group in Denmark in 1932?
Answer
Ole Kirk Christiansen
Answer
Ole Kirk Christiansen
Ole Kirk Christiansen founded the LEGO Group in Billund, Denmark, in 1932.
Christiansen was a carpenter who began making wooden household goods and toys after the economic conditions of the early 1930s affected his business. The company adopted the name LEGO in 1934, derived from the Danish phrase “leg godt,” meaning “play well.”
The business later became famous for its interlocking plastic bricks. LEGO introduced its modern brick design in 1958, the same year Christiansen died. His son Godtfred Kirk Christiansen continued developing the company and helped shape the system of compatible sets that became its signature.
The founder is sometimes confused with later family leaders, especially Godtfred and Kjeld. Ole Kirk established the company; his descendants expanded it into a global toy enterprise.
