Which electronics company did Bill Hewlett and David Packard establish in Palo Alto in 1939?

The story behind the answer

Bill Hewlett and David Packard established Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto in 1939.

The two Stanford University graduates founded the company in a one-car garage at 367 Addison Avenue. Their first product was an audio oscillator, an electronic test instrument designed by Hewlett. Walt Disney Studios bought eight oscillators for the sound system used in the 1940 film Fantasia, providing an important early customer and validation.

The famous garage is associated with Silicon Valley's entrepreneurial mythology, but HP's success also rested on engineering discipline, close customer relationships, and a workplace culture that emphasized innovation. The company became a major supplier of test equipment, calculators, computers, printers, and related technologies.

Hewlett-Packard separated its business in 2015. HP Inc. retained personal computers and printers, while Hewlett Packard Enterprise took business technology and services. Thus, the original company name remains historically important even though the modern businesses use different corporate identities.
