Who does April hate the most in "Parks and Recreation"?

The story behind the answer

In “Parks and Recreation,” April Ludgate hates Ann Perkins the most. April’s hostility toward Ann is one of the sitcom’s recurring jokes, especially during the show’s early seasons, when April is a sarcastic and emotionally guarded intern in Pawnee’s Parks Department.

April initially dislikes Ann because Ann is almost everything April claims to despise: friendly, attractive, optimistic, socially confident and genuinely interested in other people. April also resents Ann’s relationship with Andy Dwyer, whom April begins to love even though he is Ann’s former boyfriend. The rivalry becomes especially pronounced after April learns that Andy still has feelings for Ann.

Ann, played by Rashida Jones, generally responds to April’s insults with patience and attempts at friendship. Their relationship gradually changes as April matures. The two eventually become close, and April’s exaggerated “hatred” is revealed to be partly a defensive persona rather than genuine lasting animosity.

Viewers sometimes confuse Ann with Leslie Knope, April’s boss and another frequent target of her sarcasm. April certainly teases Leslie, but Ann is the character she most consistently identifies as the person she hates.
