Who directed The Wolverine, the 2013 X-Men spin-off?
Answer
James Mangold
Answer
James Mangold
James Mangold directed The Wolverine, the 2013 X-Men spin-off starring Hugh Jackman. The film follows Logan as he travels to Japan and confronts his past, his mortality and a conflict involving the Yashida family.
The Wolverine is set mainly in Japan and draws on the 1982 comic-book limited series by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller. Its story takes place after the events of X-Men: The Last Stand, although the wider franchise’s changing timelines can make continuity difficult to follow. Mangold approached the character as a more personal action drama rather than a conventional team superhero film.
Mangold later directed Logan in 2017, another Wolverine-centered film starring Jackman. This makes him easy to confuse with other X-Men directors, including Bryan Singer, Gavin Hood and Brett Ratner. The Wolverine was released internationally in July 2013 and was distributed by 20th Century Fox.
