Who directed the original 2007 Assassin's Creed game?

The story behind the answer

Patrice Désilets directed the original 2007 Assassin's Creed game.

Désilets was a creative director at Ubisoft Montreal and helped shape the concept that became Assassin's Creed. The game grew from work related to a planned Prince of Persia project, then developed into a new series centered on freerunning, historical cities, stealth, and the conflict between Assassins and Templars.

The original Assassin's Creed was released in November 2007. Its historical story follows Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad during the Third Crusade, while the modern framing story follows Desmond Miles and the Animus. Désilets later served as creative director on Assassin's Creed II before leaving Ubisoft.

Jade Raymond was an important producer associated with the original game, but she was not its director. Yves Guillemot is Ubisoft's co-founder and chief executive, while Clint Hocking is known for directing other Ubisoft titles, including Far Cry 2.
