Who directed The Godfather trilogy?

The story behind the answer

Francis Ford Coppola directed The Godfather trilogy.

Coppola directed The Godfather, released in 1972, The Godfather Part II, released in 1974, and The Godfather Part III, released in 1990. His direction shaped the trilogy’s emphasis on family loyalty, power, succession, and moral decline.

The first film was adapted from Mario Puzo’s novel, and Coppola shared screenplay credit with Puzo on all three films. Although the productions were major studio projects, Coppola brought a distinctive visual and dramatic style to the Corleone family’s story.

Coppola is sometimes confused with other major American directors associated with crime films, especially Martin Scorsese and Brian De Palma. Neither directed a Godfather film. Coppola also directed Apocalypse Now, another highly influential film of the 1970s.
