David Yates directed the film adaptation of J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.
Released in 2007, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was Yates’s first Harry Potter film. He later directed the three remaining films in the main series, making him the director of the largest number of Harry Potter movies.
The film adapts the fifth novel, in which Harry faces disbelief about Lord Voldemort’s return, the Ministry of Magic’s interference at Hogwarts, and the formation of Dumbledore’s Army. Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson returned as Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
The earlier films had different directors: Chris Columbus directed the first two, Alfonso Cuarón directed Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Mike Newell directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Yates therefore became the series’ concluding director rather than its original one.
