Who directed the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse?

The story behind the answer

Bryan Singer directed the 2016 film X-Men: Apocalypse.

The film was Singer’s fourth X-Men movie as director, following X-Men (2000), X2 (2003), and X-Men: Days of Future Past (2014). It continues the younger cast’s storyline, featuring James McAvoy as Charles Xavier, Michael Fassbender as Erik Lehnsherr, and Jennifer Lawrence as Raven.

X-Men: Apocalypse introduces the ancient mutant En Sabah Nur, also known as Apocalypse, played by Oscar Isaac. The story follows his attempt to reshape the world after awakening in the modern era. The film’s ensemble also includes younger versions of Cyclops, Jean Grey, Storm, and Nightcrawler.

A common mix-up is confusing Singer with Matthew Vaughn, who directed X-Men: First Class, or James Mangold, who directed The Wolverine and Logan. Simon Kinberg wrote and produced Apocalypse but did not direct it.
