Who directed the 2001 romantic comedy The Wedding Planner?

Adam Shankman directed the 2001 romantic comedy The Wedding Planner. Jennifer Lopez plays Mary Fiore, a successful wedding planner who falls in love with Steve Edison, the groom in one of the weddings she is organizing.

The film pairs Lopez with Matthew McConaughey and combines professional wedding logistics with the central ethical conflict of Mary’s feelings for an engaged client. It was Shankman’s feature-film directorial debut.

The director is sometimes confused with Garry Marshall because both filmmakers directed popular romantic comedies, and Marshall directed several films starring major romantic-comedy performers. The Wedding Planner was written by Pamela Falk and Michael Ellis, while Shankman handled direction.
