Who directed Pulp Fiction (1994)?

The story behind the answer

Quentin Tarantino directed Pulp Fiction (1994), which he also co-wrote with Roger Avary.

The film interweaves several Los Angeles crime stories rather than presenting its events in straightforward chronological order. Its fractured structure, sharply stylized dialogue, and mixture of crime drama, dark comedy, and pop-culture references made it one of the defining American films of the 1990s.

Pulp Fiction was Tarantino’s second feature film after Reservoir Dogs. It premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in 1994 and won the Palme d’Or. The movie later received seven Academy Award nominations, including Best Picture and Best Director; Tarantino and Avary won for Best Original Screenplay.

A common mix-up is crediting the film’s direction to a more established crime-film director such as Martin Scorsese. Scorsese did not direct Pulp Fiction, although his influence on American crime cinema is often discussed alongside Tarantino’s work.
