Brian Fee directed Pixar’s Cars 3, the 2017 film about Lightning McQueen’s comeback.
Cars 3 was Fee’s feature directorial debut. Before directing it, he worked at Pixar as a storyboard artist and contributed to several films, including Cars and its sequel. His experience with the franchise helped him shape a story centered on Lightning’s changing place in racing.
The film follows Lightning as a younger generation, led by Jackson Storm, begins to dominate the Piston Cup. He trains with Cruz Ramirez and revisits lessons associated with his former mentor, Doc Hudson.
John Lasseter directed the first two Cars films, but he did not direct Cars 3. That distinction is a common source of confusion when comparing the three theatrical entries.
