Brian Fee directed Pixar's Cars 3 (2017), the first Cars film not directed by John Lasseter.
Fee had worked at Pixar as a storyboard artist before moving into directing. His earlier credits included story work on major Pixar productions, and that experience helped him shape Cars 3's more reflective story about an aging champion, changing technology, mentorship, and the next generation of racers.
John Lasseter directed Cars (2006) and co-directed Cars 2 (2011) with Brad Lewis. Cars 3 therefore marked a change in the franchise's directing leadership, while Lasseter remained involved as a producer. The film was produced by Kevin Reher and written by a team including Kiel Murray, Bob Peterson, Mike Rich, and others.
Brian Fee should not be confused with Dan Scanlon, who directed Monsters University and Onward, or Brad Bird, who directed The Incredibles films and Ratatouille. Cars 3 opened in 2017 and continued the stories of Lightning McQueen, Mater, and the racing community.
