Who directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire?

The story behind the answer

Mike Newell directed Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

The 2005 film was the fourth main Harry Potter adaptation and the first in the series directed by Newell. It follows Harry’s unexpected selection for the Triwizard Tournament and introduces the story’s increasingly serious conflict with Lord Voldemort.

Newell became the first British director to make a Harry Potter film. His version balanced the tournament’s large-scale set pieces with the characters’ transition from childhood toward adolescence, including the Yule Ball and the tensions between the competing schools.

The film was adapted from J. K. Rowling’s fourth novel, which is substantially longer than the first three books. Steve Kloves wrote the screenplay, as he did for most of the main film series.
