Who directed Finding Nemo?

The story behind the answer

Andrew Stanton directed Finding Nemo.

Stanton directed the 2003 Pixar film and co-wrote its screenplay with Bob Peterson and David Reynolds. The film follows Marlin, an overprotective clownfish, as he crosses the ocean to find his son Nemo after the young fish is captured by divers and placed in a dentist’s aquarium.

Finding Nemo was Stanton’s first solo feature-directing credit at Pixar. Before it, he had been a major creative contributor to Toy Story and had co-directed A Bug’s Life with John Lasseter. His later Pixar directing credits included WALL-E and Finding Dory, making him closely associated with Pixar’s ocean-themed stories.

A common mix-up is confusing Stanton with other prominent Pixar directors. Pete Docter directed Monsters, Inc., Up, and Inside Out; Brad Bird directed The Incredibles and Ratatouille; and John Lasseter directed Toy Story and Cars. Stanton also voiced several small roles in Finding Nemo, including Crush, the sea turtle who helps Marlin and Dory navigate the East Australian Current.
