Who did Beyoncé portray as the voice of Nala in the 2019 film The Lion King?

The story behind the answer

Beyoncé voiced Nala in the 2019 film The Lion King.

The film is a photorealistic computer-animated remake of Disney’s 1994 traditionally animated film. Nala is a lioness who grows up alongside Simba and later helps persuade him to return to the Pride Lands. In the remake, Beyoncé provides Nala’s speaking voice and singing voice, while Donald Glover voices Simba.

The 2019 production was directed by Jon Favreau and used digital animation designed to resemble live-action wildlife photography. It revisits the original film’s story and songs while adding the new song “Spirit,” performed by Beyoncé. The soundtrack also includes revised recordings of familiar songs from the original movie.

Nala is sometimes mixed up with Sarabi, Simba’s mother, or Kiara, Simba and Nala’s daughter in the later film The Lion King II: Simba’s Pride. Those are separate characters. Beyoncé’s role in the 2019 remake is specifically the adult Nala.
