Who designed the original Coca-Cola script logo in 1886?

The story behind the answer

Frank M. Robinson designed the original Coca-Cola script logo in 1886.

Robinson was John Stith Pemberton's bookkeeper and business partner. He proposed the name Coca-Cola and wrote it in the Spencerian script style used in business correspondence at the time. The flowing lettering helped give the new drink a distinctive visual identity.

Pemberton created the beverage, but Robinson handled important early branding work. This distinction explains why historical accounts name both men in connection with Coca-Cola's beginnings. The company later added distinctive bottles, signs, colors, and advertising characters, but the basic script remains one of its most enduring symbols.

The logo was not designed by Asa Candler, who became the company's major early owner after Pemberton's death. Nor was it designed by Caleb Bradham, who created Pepsi. Those men belong to different stages or companies in the cola story.
