Answer
Arnold Skolnick
Who designed the iconic Woodstock dove-and-guitar logo? Arnold Skolnick designed the iconic Woodstock dove-and-guitar logo.
Skolnick was an American graphic artist who was asked to create a poster for the 1969 Woodstock Music and Art Fair. He developed the now-famous image of a white bird perched on the neck of an acoustic guitar, alongside the festival’s bold lettering. The bird is often casually called a dove, although descriptions of the original design identify it as a catbird.
The design was produced quickly: Skolnick was hired on a Thursday and delivered the finished poster the following Monday morning. Its simple image became one of the defining symbols of Woodstock and the wider counterculture of the late 1960s.
People sometimes confuse Skolnick with David Edward Byrd, who had created an earlier Woodstock poster design that was not used after the festival moved locations. Peter Max and Milton Glaser were also prominent designers of the era, but neither created the familiar dove-and-guitar image.
