Who designed the Ducati 916 motorcycle?
Answer
Massimo Tamburini
Answer
Massimo Tamburini
Massimo Tamburini designed the Ducati 916 motorcycle.
Ducati introduced the 916 in 1994 as a high-performance successor to the 888. Tamburini worked at the Bimota-founded design and engineering company Bimota before joining Cagiva, Ducati’s parent group at the time. His design emphasized narrow proportions, under-seat exhausts, a single-sided swingarm, and twin headlights.
The 916 became one of the most influential sport motorcycles of the 1990s. Its styling was not merely decorative: the compact bodywork and aerodynamic layout supported the model’s racing ambitions. Ducati later developed related versions including the 748, 996, and 998.
The 916 is sometimes confused with the Ducati Monster because both are associated with important Italian motorcycle design. The Monster was created by Miguel Galluzzi, while Tamburini is the designer linked to the 916 family. The distinction matters because the two motorcycles served very different roles: superbike and naked roadster.
