Which motorcycle became the first Harley-Davidson production model powered entirely by electricity?
Answer
Harley-Davidson LiveWire
Answer
Harley-Davidson LiveWire
The Harley-Davidson LiveWire became the first Harley-Davidson production motorcycle powered entirely by electricity.
Harley-Davidson unveiled the LiveWire project in 2014 and began customer deliveries of the production motorcycle in 2019. It used a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and an electric motor instead of the company’s traditional air-cooled V-twin engine.
The LiveWire was designed as a street motorcycle rather than a conversion of an existing petrol model. Its instant electric torque gave it a noticeably different riding character from Harley-Davidson’s long-established cruiser range.
In 2021, Harley-Davidson separated the electric motorcycle business into the LiveWire brand. The original motorcycle is therefore often called both the Harley-Davidson LiveWire and, in later branding contexts, simply LiveWire One.
