Who designed McDonald's familiar joined-arches logo in the 1960s?
Answer
Jim Schindler
Answer
Jim Schindler
Jim Schindler designed McDonald’s familiar joined-arches logo in the 1960s.
Schindler’s design joined the two yellow arches associated with McDonald’s restaurant architecture into a single graphic mark. This made the arches easier to reproduce on signs, packaging, uniforms, and other branded materials.
The logo’s development followed the work of architect Stanley Clark Meston, who designed the original arches as physical features of McDonald’s buildings in 1952. Meston and Schindler therefore contributed to separate stages of the branding history.
The joined arches are often mistaken for a generic letter “M,” but their origin lies in the restaurant’s architectural design. The symbol became one of the most recognizable corporate marks in the world.
