Nuno Borges defeated Rafael Nadal in his last ATP Tour singles final, at the 2024 Swedish Open. Borges won the Bastad final 6–3, 6–2 on 21 July 2024.
The result gave Borges his first ATP Tour singles title and made him the second Portuguese man in the Open Era to win a main-tour singles championship, after João Sousa. For Nadal, the match was his first final since winning the 2022 French Open and the 131st—and final—ATP Tour singles final of his career.
The event was significant because Nadal was returning to competitive tennis after extended injury problems. He defeated several opponents on the way to the final, including Mariano Navone in a marathon quarterfinal. A common mix-up is Duje Ajduković, whom Nadal beat in the semifinal; Borges was the player who defeated him in the championship match.
