Who defeated Jonas Neubauer 3-0 in the 2018 Classic Tetris World Championship final?
Answer
Joseph Saelee
Answer
Joseph Saelee
Joseph Saelee defeated Jonas Neubauer 3–0 in the 2018 Classic Tetris World Championship final.
Saelee was 16 years old when he reached the final in Portland, Oregon, facing Neubauer, a seven-time champion and one of the most famous players in competitive Tetris. Saelee had entered the tournament with little expectation of winning his first major event.
His performance was notable for using hypertapping, a technique involving extremely rapid controller presses to move pieces horizontally. After defeating Harry Hong and Koji “Koryan” Nishio on the way to the final, Saelee completed the upset with a clean three-game sweep.
The match became a landmark moment for modern Tetris. Its widely viewed video helped popularize hypertapping and introduced a younger generation of players to the competitive scene. Saelee also won the 2019 championship, defeating Koji Nishio in that final.
