Who created the superhero Wonder Woman, first published by All-American Publications in 1941?

The story behind the answer

William Moulton Marston created Wonder Woman, who first appeared in All Star Comics #8 in December 1941.

Marston was an American psychologist, writer, and inventor who wrote under the pen name Charles Moulton. He developed Wonder Woman as a heroine whose strength came from intelligence, compassion, and a commitment to truth, distinguishing her from many male superheroes of the period.

Harry G. Peter illustrated Wonder Woman’s early stories, so Marston and Peter are often credited together. However, Marston is the character’s writer and creator. Wonder Woman was published by All-American Publications, a company associated with the group that became DC Comics.

Her early mythology drew on Greek mythology, including the Amazons, Princess Diana’s homeland of Themyscira, and gods such as Ares. The character’s lasso became one of her most recognizable symbols.
