Who created the medical drama television series House M.D.?

The story behind the answer

David Shore created the medical drama television series House M.D. Shore developed the show’s central character, its diagnostic-mystery format, and the hospital setting used throughout the series.

Before House, Shore worked as a writer and producer on television dramas including Due South and The Practice. House gave him a series built around cases that initially appeared to be ordinary illnesses but developed into complex diagnostic puzzles. The character of Gregory House was partly inspired by Sherlock Holmes, especially the detective’s observation skills, isolation, and reliance on logic.

Shore served as an executive producer and remained closely associated with the program throughout its run. Bryan Singer directed the pilot and was also an executive producer, but he did not create the series. Katie Jacobs was another major producer, while Paul Attanasio was involved in the show’s development and production.

House premiered in 2004 and ended after eight seasons in 2012. Shore also wrote the series finale, “Everybody Dies,” with Peter Blake.
